I once observed a discussion on how to achieve George Harrison’s guitar tone. Some talk about guitars, pickups, amplifiers, strings, cables, mic placement and recording techniques. Then somebody chimed in with, “Oh, and you need George Harrison’s hands.” This phrase really stuck with me.
Harrison spent decades mastering his craft, years of practice, experimentation, and growth to understand and create music that no one else could. Thinking you can just fiddle with some settings and instantly be like George Harrison is wishful thinking.
I often catch myself thinking I need the latest gadget or software to improve my craft. When that happens, I mutter “George Harrison’s hands” to myself. Sometimes there are no shortcuts; it’s all about putting in the time and effort to truly understand what’s in front of you.
